Playing on the playground at the cabin.
Grace and Eli at Mt. Rushmore. If you can even tell that it's Eli with the hat and sunglasses covering his face.
Attempting to get a picture of our whole family in front of the monument.
Mt. Rushmore from a distance. From the viewing platform.
Mt. Rushmore a little closer from the walk around the whole area.
A view of the badlands or rather just the very southern edge of the badlands. It's kinda hard to tell what it looks like in this picture.
A view of the gold mine that we visited, only they didn't have any tours going on that day. It just looks cool.
Grace eating ice cream the second night instead of the first night like we had promised. She was happy we finally took her to the ice cream shop. She was also very happy that everything in the restaurant was pink and purple and she got to sit on a pink chair.
Eli making a funny face while eating his superman ice cream.
We went to South Dakota from September 10th to the 13th. We didn't get to go on any vacations this summer and we knew we were running out of time before cold weather hit. Doug has been going up to North Dakota and Montana for work a lot this year and has always been about an hour from Mt. Rushmore, so we decided we could take this trip. The kids had a lot of fun in our cabin and Grace actually asked to go back there just a few days ago. We went to Mt. Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country and a gold mine. We went to a couple other places, but nothing specific to being in South Dakota. We also drove through the black hills some and the badlands. It rained most of Saturday when we were there, but on Friday we actually had a great day for Mt. Rushmore. We had a lot of fun and hope to take another short trip like that in the spring. We'll just have to see what the weather brings.
